The Hundred: NOS vs OVI Preview

Northern Superchargers (NOS) will meet Oval Invincibles (OVI) in match 13 of the Hundred. Both teams had to settle for a point in their last respective fixtures after the weather played spoilsport. The Leeds-based franchise will be desperate for a win after picking up just one point from their three matches. Oval Invincibles, at the other end, has three points from two games.

Team News

The home side could still be without Faf du Plessis. The franchise’s medical team had advised the former South Africa captain to skip the first three matches in the tournament. If he is unavailable for selection, David Willey will lead the side. The left-arm pacer and Brydon Carse haven’t been able to make much of an impact in the two games. However, the spinner trio – Adil Rashid, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Callum Parkinson – impressed against Trent Rockets.

Northern Superchargers fans will be keen to see their opening batters dominate the bowlers. Chris Lynn and Adam Lyth have combined scored only 48 runs in the tournament so far. But Darren Lehmann, the Northern Superchargers head coach, will be delighted with Harry Brook. The youngster struck a half-century in the franchise’s tournament opener and scored 38 against Trent Rockets.

South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shamsi is expected to make his Hundred debut tonight. He is the leading wicket-taker in T20Is in 2021, with 24 wickets from 14 matches. With Shamsi in the playing eleven, Oval Invincibles, who will be without all-rounder Sam Curran, have a fantastic bowling unit. The franchise might go with three frontline spinners – Sunil Narine, Shamsi, and Nathan Sowter.

Exciting young prospect Jordan Cox is likely to make Hundred bow. The 20-year-old, who bats in the middle-order for Kent, has scored 300 runs at a strike rate of 135 in Vitality Blast 2021. Will Jacks or pinch-hitter Narine could open the batting with Jason Roy, who scored 20 in the tournament opener. Colin Ingram, skipper Sam Billings, and Laurie Evans are the other key players in the batting line-up.
