The Hundred: BPH vs TRT Preview

By Parameswaran Sankaranarayanan August 1, 2021

Birmingham Phoenix (BPH) and Trent Rockets (TRT) face each other in match 14 of the Hundred at Edgbaston cricket ground. The hosts will be keen to avoid a third straight loss after defeats against Manchester Originals and Southern Brave. Meanwhile, Trent Rockets will be hoping to register a fourth consecutive win. The franchise managed to eke out a narrow victory in their last two matches.

Team News

Liam Livingstone and Hammond Miles finding runs were the positives in Birmingham Phoenix’s defeat against Southern Brave on Friday. The duo put together 104 runs for the fourth wicket. However, the opening pair continued to disappoint. Finn Allen and his new partner Daniel Bell-Drummond could only muster 22 for the first wicket. Birmingham Phoenix might make a change in the batting line-up. The fans will be hoping that Tom Abell is fit and raring to go.

Overseas pacer Adam Milne impressed after picking up a three-wicket haul against Southern Brave. He dragged his side back in the game with the wickets of Devon Conway and Ross Whiteley. Birmingham Phoenix might rest Imran Tahir, who featured in all three matches. They could hand a debut to either Dillon Pennington or Pat Brown.

Trent Rockets are unlikely to tinker with their playing eleven despite suffering a batting stutter in the last two matches. Samit Patel managed just 16 runs in two innings, while Dawid Malan failed to register a double-digit score after the unbeaten half-century in the Trent Rockets’ tournament opener. T20 specialist Luke Wright is on the bench, and it would be interesting to see whether they include the veteran batsman in the playing eleven.

The spinners made headlines in the Nottingham-based franchise’s victory over London Spirit. Off-spinner Matthew Carter grabbed a three-wicket haul, while Patel removed Josh Inglis and Eoin Morgan, and Rashid Khan, too, added wickets to his tally. Trent Rockers are likely to retain their three spinners despite the Edgbaston pitch assisting the pacers better.
