Average score at venue: 164
Win percentage while batting first: 44.44%
- The pitch at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium has remained a puzzle for most of the teams in Indian T20 League 2021, with a couple of low scores being recorded by teams in the last two matches at this venue.
- The newly-laid surface at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium has certainly benefited the spin bowlers more, with the ball stopping on to the batsmen and not coming on as ‘nicely’ for their liking.
- Still, fast bowlers have the best record at this venue with 69.07% of wickets coming in their way while spinners have got only 30.93% of the dismissals.
It will be an extremely hot afternoon in Sharjah with temperatures hitting 38°C during the afternoon but the mercury will drop down to around 35°C in the evening and 32°C after sunset. The players will have to deal with a lower humidity level, which will be around 30% on Monday evening.

Should I pick more bowlers, batsmen or all-rounders?
It is a contest between two teams who have had a contrasting run in the Indian T20 league this year. Bangalore started off the tournament with four consecutive victories but slipped in the middle stages, only to recover well and make it to the final four of the Indian T20 tournament 2021. On the other hand, Kolkata were able to put behind some mediocre performances in the first leg of this year’s tournament and did well in the UAE to record plenty of victories that was enough to take them through to the knockouts round. Both the teams have been able to make it to the final four on the back of some impressive batting performances which were equally backed by penetrative bowling. But in knockout matches, it is always better for a team to have more runs on the board, which means that adding more to the batting strength will be advised for this contest between Bangalore and Kolkata.
From which team should I pick more players in my XI? Which team is stronger?
Both Kolkata and Bangalore had to stage comebacks in the middle stages of the Indian T20 league tournament this year. While Kolkata were ordinary in the first leg of the Indian T20 tournament, Bangalore were absolutely magnificent at the start but went ordinary in the middle stages. They were able to make it to the playoffs round of Indian T20 tournament on the back of some impressive batting performances from the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Venkatesh Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Devdutt Padikkal and even V Kohli to name a few. While Bangalore were the third team to make it to the play-offs, Kolkata won a battle between several teams on the basis of their better Net Run Rate — something that rated them above Mumbai despite having similar results from 14 first-round matches. Bangalore won 9 of their 14 matches whereas Kolkata clinched victories only in 7, something that can serve as a benchmark to pick more players from a specific team. In this case, it must be Team Bangalore.
MORE INFORMATION: The bilateral record between Bangalore and Kolkata is favour of the latter since they have recorded more victories — 15 — in the 28 matches which these two teams have played so far in the history of Indian T20 league. However in the recent meetings, Bangalore have been able to win 4 out of the last 5 matches that these two teams played so far, something that gives them clear edge over the two-time title winners. As Bangalore seek their maiden Indian T20 league title, they will have to deal with some of the former winners and Kolkata are going to provide the first hurdle in a knockout match on Monday night in Sharjah.
Players’ form: Glenn Maxwell is a mere 2 runs short of becoming the fifth batsman in IPL Indian T20 league to make more than 500 runs in one season. On the other hand, the best Kolkata batsman this year has been Rahul Tripathi, who has 377 runs in 14 matches at an average of 31 with two half-centuries. Clearly, there are more in-form batsmen in the Bangalore team which includes the likes of Kohli, Padikkal, AB de Villiers and even India understudy wicketkeeper-batsman Srikar Bharat, who hit a last-ball six in the final league round match against team Delhi to help Bangalore record a narrow but important victory. With the ball, Harshal Patel has been in his own league. Kolkata will be dependent on the likes of Iyer and Tripathi to get their runs, whereas the performance from Shivam Mavi against Delhi in which he took 4 wickets, will certainly bolster their bowling attack.
Changes in squad (if any): NO
Team Bangalore: V Kohlii (c), Devdutt Padikkal, KS Bharat (wk), Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers, Dan Christian, Shahbaz Ahmed, George Garton, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal.
Team Kolkata: Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan (c), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Shakib Al Hasan, Sunil Narine, Lockie Ferguson, Shivam Mavi, Varun Chakravarthy
FANTASY XI: V Kohlii, Venkatesh Iyer, Devdutt Padikkal, Glenn Maxwell, KS Bharat, Rahul Tripathi, Dinesh Karthik, Harshal Patel, Sunil Narine, Lockie Ferguson, Varun Chakravarthy,
Confident Bangalore face dangerous Kolkata in Eliminator
Bangalore captain V Kohlii could be leading his side in the Indian T20 league for one last time on Monday night when they face off against Kolkata in the Eliminator of Indian T20 league, to be played at the Sharjah Cricket Ground in Sharjah.
The team which is beaten on Monday night will be out of the race for the Indian T20 league final, a fate that the Bangalore side had to go through last year in the 2020 edition and it did not end in happy memories for them. Team Hyderabad handed team Bangalore a 6- wicket defeat in the very first knockout round match which they had played in years, and pressure will now be formally on Kohlii’s team to produce a better performance against Kolkata on Monday night.
And there is no reason why Bangalore cannot dominate Kolkata in the eliminator. Bangalore have played far better cricket than Kolkata throughout the Indian T20 league season 2021, recording more victories, earning more points as well as getting better NRR.
More importantly, the Bangalore side was not involved in a multi-team battle for a spot in the Indian T20 league playoffs unlike Kolkata, since they independently qualified at the third spot, having had a shot at the second spot which was denied to them by team Hyderabad.
The likes of Maxwell, de Villiers, Padikkal, Bharat and even Kohli will be responsible for keeping Bangalore on top against Kolkata, a team which is equally dangerous and unpredictable given how they have performed in the UAE leg of the Indian T20 cricket league.
Kolkata have been able to make giant strides in the Indian T20 league after an ordinary start to the season. They found a potential match-winning player in Iyer, someone who has been making runs constantly and has also been chipping in with wickets here and there. Shubman Gill has struck form whereas the likes of Tripathi and Rana have also been chipping in with vital contributions.
The absence of Pat Cummins from the UAE leg of Indian T20 league provided Kolkata with an opportunity to play Lockie Ferguson. The New Zealand pacer who has been able to make a strong impact with his performances. Ferguson has both pace as well as accuracy to surprise the best batsmen in the business and he has been at the forefront of their bowling attack in recent matches.
While Bangalore will certainly want a better result than the previous appearance in the Eliminator last year, Kolkata will certainly want to make most of their current form and momentum as there are only a few matches left before teams get to lay their hands on the coveted Indian T20 league trophy.
